Help keep the local street dogs to stay in their natural habitat area of Fethiye

The Issue

For the last three years, we have had an increase in new apartments being built in the patlangic area, but we also have some street dogs living here longer than the buildings.

This petition is to help keep the dogs in this area of patlangic. Please help sign this if you agree.

Some of the locals in the area have created a petition to remove all the dogs in this area. And I need to show them that it is not required. And they are not aggressive dogs. I will be their voice.

I want to share with you the story of the dogs here...

A beautiful mother dog has been wandering this area for almost three years. From where she came from, we do not know. Maybe she was dumped or abandoned. However, she was not spayed when she arrived.

What has been happening since she arrived? Being the only female in the area, she attracted many male dogs, most of them being owned. The irresponsible owners that do not sterilise their dogs. And they have many reasons why.

2022 She had her first litter and became a mother to three beautiful pups. Two wandered off, and one stayed around—his almost a year old.

The mother dog is a timid girl, probably around 6-8 years old. And she could be more forthcoming if she wanted. But I understand why she is like she is. A man passing on a bike has kicked her in the face. And she was walking past. She has had hot water thrown over her many times by my neighbours and been shouted at many times to move away from the sidewalk were she lays.

Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years by humans, and because of this, they cannot hunt for their food as they should. We started to take dogs into our homes and feed them. Play with them and use them for daily Jobs such as working on farms or other tasks. They have been used to pull people out of the wreckage in natural disasters and help adults and children with learning difficulties, even people with disabilities. We even made the famous quote.

Quote: A MANS BEST FRIEND…

For the last year and a half, I have been studying and observing mother dogs behaviour, watching her routine, and getting to know where her favourite places are to sleep. she has a pattern, just like us humans. She finds food at her reliable locations. she walks on the roads where she knows she will be safe. And she sleeps in the same places.

2023 This year she gave birth to seven more puppies. And I knew this would not be accepted by some of the locals. but I knew I had to find a way to keep them safe and get mother dog spayed as soon as possible and get the people who lived here more accepting of them being here but making sure they were safe along with the public. Of course, this meant there were more dogs than initially started. And they live on the side of the road on a patch of grass. And close to a children’s park.

They bark at passers-by but never attack.  They, too, are just as scared.

As a dog owner and a mother, I know only too well what everyone must think. But I have never been one to sit back and do nothing. This might be the mentality of some people who live here. But this is not mine.

So what has been done so far?

Seven puppies have been fully vaccinated; One puppy has been rehoused. One female puppy has been spayed. And the second female puppy is being fixed on the 24th of march. The other four will be done at the end of April.

For mother dog, I have been trying to catch her for almost six months. I have gradually gained her trust for her to come close enough. I had a large trap made at a paid cost. It was large enough to get her inside with food where the door would shut behind her. I tried many ways to catch her with the help of many people. And finally, on the 18th of march 2023, I caught her in the trap. And she was neutered privately by Kent vet clinic.

İm also in the process of getting one old owned male dog, the father of the puppies who were abandoned by the previous owners, sterilised this week in a private clinic.

Many would say this is the responsibility of the local council. Well, yes, you are right, but in this case, They could have been done at the shelter, but they would not have caught her. And if she or the Puppys entered the shelter, they would face many risks. There are not enough quartine areas to separate them from the sick dogs. Once sterilised, chipped and tagged, they should be released to where they came from. But if they get sick within seven days, they must stay there until they are cured. But sometimes, they would need one-to-one care, and without this, they would end up dying from distemper or Parvo.

Over the months i have collected so much video evidence to prove they will not hurt anyone. Their bark is bigger than their bite. and they have no intention to bite. They are not aggressive dogs. They are just a family with nowhere to live. And have just done what nature intended them to do. They have every right to live on these streets alongside us. And the law states this.  I want to remind everyone of the 5199 animal law below.

i am currently trying to find homes for the puppy's. so if you do know of anyone who would like to rehome one. please contact me ASAP.

Please help share and sign the petition to help these dogs stay in the area.
