As a victim of sexual assault, I have discovered the world that 1 in 3 women live in. A world where power and safety are forcefully stripped away, and replaced with a new awareness of the dangers women in society face. I believe we have to start creating ways to keep women safe in everyday life activities. Anytime a woman is going to be in a vulnerable situation, she should have options and tools to help her navigate in a way that feels safe and comfortable.

As an uber driver of 2 years, I have had so many negative situations with male passengers, all because I was a female driver. I believe the safety risk to women drivers has made women feel vulnerable, because passengers are not background checked or even required to give a real name or identification in order to obtain a ride. This means female drivers could be picking up ANYONE with ANY background, hence putting them in unknown and risky situations. As a female driver, I want to be able to provide safe and comfortable rides for other females, especially in the evening but I don't feel safe driving after dark and picking up males. I have had a man put his hands on me from the back seat, I've had a man so drunk he passed out in my backseat and I couldn't get him out of my car at his drop off point, I've been propositioned, hit on, and at one point I believe I was setup to be abducted or worse. I have never had any situations with female passengers that made me feel uneasy or unsafe.

I'd like to garner attention to the rideshare companies (Uber/Lyft/Etc) to add a feature that would allow women drivers AND women passengers to request ONLY women in their respective positions. For the safety of all females wanting to drive but not comfortable driving men especially after dark, we need this change.
