Help Keep Students Safe!

The Issue

Hello Neighbors,

I am writting to ask if you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or just people you love that travel in the City of Rialto to write the City of Rialto Public Works Department requesting them to rebuild the traffic signal at the intersection of N/S Cactus Ave and W Rialto Ave near 662 W Rialto Ave, Rialto, CA 92376. Not only is this traffic signal at an intersection in a school zone for Rialto Middle School and Werner Elementary School but it is also in a major traveled intersection. I urge City of Rialto Residents to join me in contacting the City of Rialto Public Works Department to urge them to include this intersection in the upcomming fiscal years budget for this signal to be replaced and to include traffic signals with left turn facing lights. I have already contacted them before however I ask for your help since the new warehouse located near 462-498 W Rialto Ave, Rialto, CA 92376 will add to this already congested intersection. I had previously sent an inquiry in 2022 with no follow up and I recently called again in September 2024 to follow up and according to a city traffic engineer for the City Rialto, "I'm the city traffic engineer for the City of Rialto. They asked me to go take a look at the intersection at Cactus and Rialto. And uh for the request that you talked about left turn facing, I want to let you know that I was out there for the most of the day uh off and on and watch the, the patterns out there and it seems to function fairly well much of the time. But uh there are some peaks, obviously, especially like maybe during the 7:38 o'clock time in the morning when making a left hand turn is a little tougher because the traffic opposing is uh fairly heavy. Uh So, uh but the city in order to do the left turn facing well you're talking about a quarter of a million dollar type project to rebuild those poles and, and everything like that to put in special left turn facing like that. So I don't believe they have that kind of funding uh in the budget for this current year or so. So they have denied the request for that. But ask that, we continue to monitor, we looked at the accident history and, uh, there hasn't been a lot of accidents out there, so people are kind of figuring it out. But, um, certainly that's not what we want to have happen is that there has to be a lot of accidents before we do something, but we are keeping an eye on it now. So if we do see any increase like that, um, then of course they can take action as appropriate. So, um let us know if you have any further questions, you feel free to call me at this number any time. And we thank you so much for giving us a heads up on this".

For now they have denied the request but with your help I believe we can urge the City of Rialto to make this change.

Dear City of Rialto Public Works Department,

I am contacting you as a resident of the City of Rialto in regards to the intersection of N/S Cactus Ave and W Rialto Ave near 662 W Rialto Ave, Rialto, CA 92376. Not only is this traffic signal at an intersection located in a school zone for Rialto Middle School and Werner Elementary School but it is also in a major traveled intersection. With an increase of traffic in the area, it is vital that a traffic signal with an arrow facing sign be built at this intersection. The current traffic signal not only puts students at risk during the school's peak hours, but this intersection is a main street which is highly trafficked. With a recent study made at this intersection by one of your city traffic engineers for the City Rialto on the first week of October 2024, I urge you to include this intersection in the upcomming fiscal years budget for this signal to be replaced to include a traffic signal with a left turn facing light. Please consider this change for the safety of our community. Thank you for your time.
