Help keep our Colorado Seniors in their own homes.

The Issue

Almost Half of Colorado Seniors Live on a Fixed Income—And They’re Being Left Behind DO NOT DONATE THROUGH CHANGE.ORG We appreciate your support, but please note: donations made on Change.org  do not go to Bright Leaf Seniors. If you’d like to help, please use the official link at the bottom of this post.

We’ve tried. We’ve met with multiple state leaders. We’ve sat in roundtables, sent letters, made calls—and yet, it feels like most simply don’t care about the growing crisis facing Colorado’s seniors. The lack of resources, the shrinking programs, the silence—it’s deafening. So we’ve come to a hard truth: we’re on our own with this one. If change is going to happen, it’s going to come from us—from community members who refuse to look away.

In Colorado, nearly 1 in 3 adults aged 65+ live below the poverty line, and over 40% rely solely on fixed incomes. These are our neighbors, our veterans, our grandparents—and they’re struggling.

At Bright Leaf Seniors, we receive over 150 requests for help every week. Seniors need basic home repairs, food assistance, and increasingly, support for raising grandchildren—a growing reality for many. But Colorado lacks the programs and infrastructure to meet this demand. The system is overwhelmed, and frontline nonprofits like ours are stretched thin.

Even simple repairs—like fixing a broken heater or securing a handrail—can become impossible for seniors living on the edge. And for those caring for grandchildren, the burden is even heavier.

We’ve spoken with lawmakers. We’ve met with officials. But too often, our calls go unanswered. Colorado is falling short, and our elders are paying the price.

We can’t wait for change to trickle down. We must stand together now.

If you believe in dignity, safety, and support for our older community, we ask you to:

Donate to help us serve more seniors
Volunteer your time or skills
Share our mission with your network
Every action matters. Every dollar helps. Together, we can tip the scales and build a Colorado that honors its elders—not ignores them.

Let’s make noise. Let’s make change. Let’s make sure no senior is left behind. 👉 https://www.brightleafinc.org/

The Calls Come In Every Day—And They Break Our Hearts

At Bright Leaf Seniors, we hear from older Coloradans every single day—calls, emails, handwritten letters. They come from every corner of the state: from the plains to the mountains, from small towns to city blocks. And the stories they share are devastating.

One senior told us she hadn’t had running water in weeks. Another was living without electricity, using blankets and candles to get through cold nights. We’ve seen homes with floors so damaged they’re unsafe to walk on, and ceilings caved in, leaving families exposed to rain, wind, and snow.

These aren’t isolated cases. They’re part of a growing crisis.

We’re doing everything we can—patching roofs, repairing plumbing, delivering food—but the need is overwhelming. We receive over 150 requests for help each week, and we simply don’t have the resources to reach everyone.

Even more heartbreaking are the seniors who are raising their grandchildren. They’re trying to provide love and stability while their homes crumble around them. They need help with school clothes, tuition, and basic repairs—and they deserve it.

Colorado is falling short. Our state leaders have been slow to act, and the programs that do exist are stretched thin. But we refuse to give up.

We invite you to watch our news videos on our website, where you’ll see the real faces behind these stories. These are our elders. They built our communities. They cared for us. Now it’s our turn to care for them.
