Giggle & Grow Playcare is currently working through the approval process to relocate to our new location on W Kalkaska Rd so we can continue providing reliable childcare for local families in Kalkaska County.

Giggle & Grow Playcare is already a licensed and 5-star quality rated childcare program serving children and working families within our community. Due to the timing of required meetings and publication schedules, the next available regular hearing date would delay moving forward with the state licensing process for the new location, directly impacting local families who rely on childcare in order to maintain employment and support their households.

Under Michigan law, licensed childcare homes are a protected and necessary residential use intended to serve communities and working families. This special use permit process is not intended to determine whether childcare itself should exist within the community based on public popularity, but rather to ensure reasonable zoning compliance standards are met.

We respectfully believe local families should not face extended loss of childcare access due solely to scheduling timelines and special meeting costs when the program itself is already licensed, established, and serving an essential community need.

We are respectfully asking Kalkaska County officials to consider holding a special meeting and waiving or reducing the associated special meeting fees in order to help avoid unnecessary delays in childcare availability for local families.

This request is not intended to bypass the zoning or public hearing process. We simply hope to find a fair and collaborative solution that supports children, working families, local employers, and the broader community.
