The Issue

The goal of this petition is to secure a new trial for Gil, and ultimately his total exoneration. This is a plea for justice, not just for Gil, but for every individual who has fallen victim to the Miscarriages of Justice. Let us come Together to urge the District Attorneys Office, and Courts, to act swiftly and grant a new trial. Please sign this petition to help bring awareness and pressure.

James (Gil) Dowdy has spent too many years behind bars for a crime he didn't commit. In Jan. of 2014 he was accused, and subsequently convicted of a crime, that shattered not only his life, but also his family's. Gil's case is riddled with inconsistencies. And Despite the lack of any physical, or even circumstantial evidence, linking him to the crime. And the D.A's, Only witness in the case, not even remembering the story told just 30 days prior. And consistently changing the facts, at every stage prior to trial. And at trial admitting, to lying about facts of the case. Gil was still unfortunately convicted. And yet the wheels of justice turn slowly, and Gil remains imprisoned. Legal experts, including renowned defense attorneys and public advocacy groups, have reviewed Gil's case and are unanimous in their call for a retrial. Friends, family and supporters have tirelessly advocated for his innocence, but their voices need bolstering to correct this grave injustice. Wrongful convictions are not isolated incidents. According to the National Registry of Exonerations there have been 229 exonerations in 2021 in the US alone. And 375 DNA exonerations since, according to the Innocence Project. Each case of Innocence revealed, represents years of lost life, families broken, and communities affected. These are lives like Gil's, who dream of freedom but remain shackled by the chains of a miscarriage of justice.... Help Free A Innocent Man and sign this petition
