Help For Austin Mehring Support Of Preventing a Wrongful Prosecution

The Issue

Hello, I am Austin Mehring. I am 20 years old. I was an honors student at Kent State University until I was falsely accused of crimes I did not commit 09/11/2021. While attending a college party, I was assaulted and robbed by a group of 4 caucasian people. They called me the n-word, homeboy, and other racial slurs. I acted in self defense and fought back (no weapons). They stole my phone to try to get rid of the evidence. They are on video doing all of this. After the altercation, I tried to file a police report, but there weren’t any officers at the station (Kent PD). I was pulled over on my way home from the station and I was arrested. I was bonded out of Portage County Jail on $50,000 cash bond. Despite the overwhelming evidence in my defense, this case is set for trial July 19. The maximum sentence in this case is ~30 years if I am found guilty. These people robbed me and assaulted me, but it seems as if the court believes I shouldn’t have defended myself. A jury of my peers is as fair as it can be when the county is 90% Caucasian. I am as uncomfortable as any person of color would be in this situation. Please Share, Please Sign!
