Help Farmers Use Biogas Systems to Produce Sustainable Energy

The Issue

Climate change is having a disastrous effect on our environment, and as a result, Ontario is experiencing drawbacks in the agriculture industry.

As anticipated, human activity is the leading contributor to climate change. The burning of fossil fuels accounts for 75% of greenhouse gas emissions and almost 90% of carbon dioxide emissions. This can result in extreme temperatures and weather patterns, as well as cause damage to the Earth by influencing soil quality, air, water, and land conditions, which all play a significant role in quality agriculture. Consequently, higher temperatures may affect livestock health, as a warmer atmosphere brings new diseases and pests that may result in lower milk, meat, and egg production along with other issues.

This demonstrates that this is one of the biggest challenges this industry, specifically farmers, will face in the long term due to a rapidly changing global climate.

Agricultural Biogas can become the stepping stone to using renewable energy resources in farming, as it uses organic matter to create fuel. This will in turn reduce harmful waste that cows produce, which will help minimize the effects of climate change. This will improve the quality of our land, soil, and air leading to reduced food prices, greater animal health, generally less stress, and more efficiency for our farmers. This renewable energy will be less costly for farmers, and food inflation will decrease as production rates spike due to reduced global warming.

Overall, the results of climate change on agriculture take on many issues such as food inflation, loss of biodiversity, and many others which greatly affect us, and our future generations.

So…we need to act now!

Taking on the huge puzzle of solving climate change, it takes multiple small steps to complete the puzzle. The Environmental Farming Plan (EFP) will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage farmers to resort to using biogas systems to produce renewable, and sustainable energy. Farm families can now evaluate their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to being environmentally friendly and thoughtful of their practices.

Support this cause by signing this petition to help biogas systems become more widely incorporated in the agriculture industry to reduce the impacts it has on the Earth. A lot is at stake, considering we don’t have much time to make a change!
