Help End The Assault On The Bush House

The Issue

The 1898 Bush House Inn is an original family business in the town of Index. The Bush family traveled to Snohomish County from New York to help settle and grow this area as a portal to new economies; including logging, mining, and recreation. After 40+ years under the care of the Bush family the Inn changed hands several times and continued to thrive as an Inn and Restaurant - serving delicious meals and providing a destination for Seattleites and Highway 2 travelers, and serving as the central gathering place for the community. During this 100 year period the Bush House outlived most other businesses in town, becoming the heart of Index. The business closed in 2002 when the owner fell into personal financial hardship. The new owners, who purchased the building in December 2011, have embarked on a renovation that will preserve this historic site, create local jobs, and bolster the area’s economy while complementing the Town's character and identity.

The historic Bush House Inn is a catalyst for economic vitality in the Town of Index, and will strengthen the community, create local jobs, provide educational opportunities, support the recreation industry, and improve the infrastructure for the future of the area.

We are asking the Eleazer’s to drop their lawsuit against the Snohomish Health Department, the Bush House, and the previous hotel owner.

We are asking Mayor Albert to amend his determination of "expansion" and call this project what it is; a remodel.

We are asking the Snohomish Health Department to approve the Bush House permits with usage requirements identical to what they were in 2002.

We are asking the Court of Appeals to swiftly evaluate and confirm the ruling of the Trial Court in favor of the Bush House, putting an end to the legal quagmire that has caused delays and added costs to the project.

The Corson family - current owners of the Bush House - are small business owners and dedicated community members. They regularly host community gatherings, events, educational tours and classes and work closely with local nonprofits and schools. Their desire to preserve an important piece of Pacific Northwest history by investing in the economy of a small town is seen as a valuable contribution by the many who eagerly anticipate the Bush House's reopening.

We are trying to do the right thing, and that is why we are asking you to act in favor of re-opening the Bush House on its current drainfield system so that it can continue to function as the center of this community as it has done for 105+ years.

We're all frustrated by the unnecessary delay. It is going to take the entire community of Bush House supporters, speaking out with a unified voice, to spread the word about the importance of the Bush House as a Snohomish County destination and the backbone of the Index economy. Join with us in insisting that the Bush House project be allowed to move forward and reopen as an 11 room hotel and full service restaurant, bakery and bar - as it was operating in 2002 - without any additional delays.

It is time to expedite the restoration and reopening of our beloved Bush House. Let's start by giving the Bush House and the Corson Family the support they need.
