The issue

For many of us, Hi-5 wasn’t just a children’s television program, it was part of everyday life. The songs that stayed in our heads, the dance routines we copied, and the comfort of seeing the same familiar faces, day after day.

That feeling began with the original cast: Charli Robinson, Kellie Crawford, Kathleen de Leon-Jones, Tim Harding, and Nathan Foley. Long before Hi-5 became a global brand, they shaped its heart through music, movement, and a warmth that reached far beyond Australia and into homes around the world.

Hi-5 quickly became an international success, breaking geographic and cultural barriers as it aired in countries including Singapore, the Philippines, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the United States. It was through these international broadcasts that many viewers outside Australia, myself included, first discovered the show.

My connection to Hi-5 and the original cast was shaped not by the surrounding media attention during their peak years, but by the program itself: its concept, its structure, and the camaraderie that came through both on and off screen. That ability to resonate across borders is precisely why the original cast’s work continues to matter, and why this petition exists, to acknowledge a legacy that connected thousands of families worldwide through the show alone.

As those early audiences have grown older, many are now parents themselves, revisiting Hi-5 and sharing the original cast’s work with a new generation. What began as a children’s program for one group of viewers is now being experienced again across families. Not through nostalgia alone, but through continued relevance. This shared rediscovery highlights why this moment matters now: it reflects the lasting impact of the original cast’s work and the way it continues to connect people across generations.

This petition is not a call for a reboot, revival, or ongoing reunion.

Instead, it is a respectful request for consideration of a one-off reunion or commemorative feature that acknowledges the original cast collectively, should they wish to participate. This could take many forms, including:

  • filmed reunion interview
  • moderated panel or retrospective discussion
  • commemorative media feature reflecting on the show’s early years
  • thoughtfully curated question-and-answer segment drawing from fan-submitted questions or reflections.

Any such participation would be entirely voluntary and guided by the comfort, consent, and availability of those involved.

This petition exists to demonstrate genuine public interest in recognising the original cast — not as a demand for performance or revival, but as an expression of appreciation. A single, thoughtful feature would acknowledge an important chapter of children’s television history and honour the people who helped shape something that continues to be remembered, shared, and valued.

If Hi-5 was part of your childhood, whether you watched it on television or at a live show, discovered it internationally, or are now sharing it with your own children, your signature helps show that its original legacy still matters.
