The issue

Rafiki Mermaid Beach isn't just about offering a cup of coffee; it's a vital community hub that has served as the beating heart of our neighborhood for years. It’s where friendships blossom, creativity is shared, and neighbors gather to create lasting memories. However, recent circumstances have forced Rafiki to temporarily close its doors, leading to unforeseen disruptions in our community's daily life.

Local community groups that call Rafiki home have been left without a gathering place. These groups aren’t just meetings; they're support systems, idea incubators, and sources of joy for many. The temporary absence of Rafiki has also rippled outwards, affecting nearby businesses that relied on the foot traffic and synergy the café brought to Mermaid Beach.

Furthermore, the dedicated staff at Rafiki, who have become familiar and friendly faces in our lives, are facing uncertainty, with their livelihoods disrupted. Each employee plays a crucial role not just within the café, but in the wider community, offering service with a smile and helping to create the warm, welcoming environment we cherish.

This petition is about asking all parties to work constructively, fairly and in good faith towards a resolution that considers the interests of staff, customers, suppliers and the broader community.

We call on all parties to engage in meaningful discussions and pursue a fair and reasonable resolution that supports local jobs, and provides certainty for everyone affected.
