Help Bigeye Tuna from Overfishing and Bycatch
The Issue
Bigeye Tuna (also known as Thunnus Obesus) are one of the most important fish in the sea. While being a part of the tuna family, bigeye tuna are top predators to small fish and other ocean creatures. Like most tuna, they are found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean.
Over the past few years, bigeye tuna has been overfished. With popular demand of frozen and fresh fish, fishers have caught mass amounts of bigeye tuna, which are affecting the ocean. We also see younger bigeye tuna being caught on accident (bycatch) when schooling with other tunas. Both of these are contributing to the depleting population of bigeye tuna.
It's important to care about the bigeye tuna, because of their big contribution to the ocean. Without the bigeye tuna, the oceans ecosystem would be thrown off, including the food web. This petition is pushing for more regulations for fishers, so the bigeye tuna's population grows to a healthy amount.
