The Issue
Our planet is in a global plastic crisis that can no longer be ignored. As people who recreate outdoors and love the mountains, we all see the effects single-use plastics have on the Mammoth Lakes area — abandoned bottles on the side of a trail or floating in our lakes.
Of course, staying hydrated is an important part of recreating outdoors. But single-use plastics don't have to be a part of your outdoor adventures.
Ban the Bottle: Mammoth Lakes is a call for residents, second homeowners, visitors and anyone who loves Mammoth Lakes to sign the petition to ban the sale of single-use plastics (24 oz. or less) in town. In addition to signing the petition, you can help the campaign by sharing the petition with your family and friends to help Mammoth Lakes reach its goal of 2,500 signatures in support of banning the sale of single-use plastics in town.
Research in support of banning the sale of single-use plastics:
- 1 million plastic bottles are produced every minute via Story of Stuff
- Americans throw away 35 billion plastic water bottles every year via EcoWatch
- Experts estimate that packaging a one-liter bottle of water uses three liters of water via Valley Water
