In response to a question asked by the General Public
They could have found Alfies tumour if they had known what they was looking for.
The doctors are sure that the first tumour Alfie was diagnosed with he was actually born with. By the time the doctors listened to me Alfie was 3 years old. I knew from birth there was something not quite right with Alfie but the Doctors didn’t listen to me for 3 years.
It was eventually one day that I refused to leave until they had made a referral for him to be scanned. I thought he had a problem with his spine... but it was a ganglineuroblastoma.
So in answer to the question yes they can screen babies but because it’s so rare I suppose they don’t test babies for that in particular. Although I had very thorough ultra sounds with my next two babies to check their spines etc.
Alfies Neuroblastoma was found during a routine scan 2 1/2 years after he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma stage IV
