Our ‘Cone Health ZooCity Sportsplex’ is a wonderful addition to the Asheboro community. It provides space for families, athletes, visitors and caregivers to have fun, hang out, and exercise. But there is no adequate shade across the entire park for sunny days, especially in the summer time. The park equipment gets very hot, as do the seats provided for parents/caregivers. During North Carolina summers, temperatures and UV exposure can be especially dangerous for children, elderly, coaches and spectators, as well as families that spend long hours at the park for sports events. With no shade accessible, parents often sit on the ground in the shade of the park equipment, which isn’t overly easy for everyone. Sitting along the fence isn’t very safe either, as there are ants that make their homes around the brickwork that surrounds part of the playground. 
We are respectfully asking the city to consider adding shade not just to the playground area, but across different areas of the park to improve safety, comfort and accessibility.
