Petition:

Motorcycle accidents are a leading cause of death and injury on the roads of Iowa. The state has seen a significant increase in motorcycle fatalities over the past few years, with many of these accidents being attributed to riders not wearing helmets.

It is time for Iowa to take action and make helmets mandatory for all motorcyclists, especially those riding high-performance motorcycles such as "crotch rockets". These bikes have been shown to be more dangerous than other types of motorcycles due to their speed capabilities and handling characteristics.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), helmets are estimated to be 37% effective in preventing fatal injuries among motorcycle riders. In states where helmet use is mandatory, there is a lower incidence of motorcycle fatalities compared to states without helmet laws.

Not only do helmets save lives, but they also reduce the severity of head injuries sustained in motorcycle accidents. Head injuries can result in lifelong disabilities that can impact an individual's quality of life and ability to work.

We urge Iowa lawmakers to prioritize public safety by enacting legislation that mandates the use of helmets for all motorcyclists. This will not only protect riders but also their passengers who are often at risk during an accident.

Let us come together as responsible citizens and demand that our lawmakers take action now before another life is lost on Iowa's roads.
