Protect the freedom and safety of Afghan women and girls!

Protect the freedom and safety of Afghan women and girls!
The Issue
German | English
The lives and freedoms of women and girls are at stake as the Taliban have taken power in Afghanistan. The Taliban regime was in power from 1996 - 2001. Under the Taliban, women and girls were completely banned from the public sphere - women and girls were radically denied access to education, health, and economic and political participation.
The Taliban are known for their cruelty, especially towards women. Forced marriages, sexual violence, torture and public stonings - the Taliban have already begun to perpetrate these human rights violations against women. Afghan women fear for their lives.
We must act and cannot not leave Afghan women behind! The German government and the international community have a duty to stand up for the protection of women!
We therefore ask the German government, as G7 Chair and key NATO partner, to urgently work with all parties and international allies, leveraging the access still possible on the ground through third-party states, to ensure:
- The immediate evacuation of women with high risk facing imminent danger
- An expedited and non-bureaucratic asylum process for the most at risk Afghan women and girls and the expansion of asylum provisions to allow families to enter Germany
- The right of women in Afghanistan to move freely and safely and to continue studying and working without restrictions or fear of reprisals
- The right of women in Afghanistan to have access to health care
- The right of women in Afghanistan to participate in politics, justice, and NGO work without threat or harm.
- The appointment of an independent human rights commission to strictly monitor compliance of women's rights in Afghanistan. The international community commits itself to take the necessary measures to prevent the violation of women's rights.
Women's rights are human rights. Sign this petition and share it in your networks. Only together can we protect women in Afghanistan and uphold human rights.
