LD Bell HS used to offer philosophy as an elective course until members of the community began to dislike this program because it contains curriculum that leads to questioning the existence of God and Christian beliefs. The district then released a survey asking parents whether or not the course should continue to be taught. The course was later removed when majority voted to take away the class. However, it's not logical to remove the class based on voting because the class is an elective, so it isn't required for students to take.  A student's parent/ legal guardian is ultimately the decider of what electives their child should take, but have no authority over the electives another child takes.  In addition to this, the decision to remove the course was based on a religious belief that contradicts the curriculum, but LD Bell is not affiliated with any religion, so religion should not dictate the decisions made or classes taught.  Philosophy is a science based solely on logic, so the contents of the class are based on knowledge, it's quite literally the foundation we think and make decisions on throughout our lives, therefore everything taught in it must be logical and have a truth value.  If we're required to be taught biology that includes evolution, which goes against Christian beliefs, we should be offered philosophy as a choice.
