Keep the HEB at William Cannon & South First Open

Keep the HEB at William Cannon & South First Open

The Issue

On April 2, 2020 the HEB located at 600 William Cannon (and South First St) will be closed.

To quote HEB "its growth plans were driven by the increased density and growth in South Austin".  Also quoted: "the design of these new and renovated stores will incorporate the look and feel of their surrounding neighborhoods and will incorporate conservation elements such as rainwater harvesting, water retention ponds, enivornmentally-friendly refrigeration and solar panel installation.

While I am all for enivornmentally-friendly I do not agree that the South Congres/Slaughter new store incorporates the look and feel of the surrounding neighborhoods.  Also, I am not inclined to shop at a location that already has a huge traffic congestion problem like South Congress & Slaughter has. I currently avoid this area because of it.  Bigger is not always better!

I have shopped at the William Cannon/South First St location for 25 years; since I moved into the neighborhood.  I go there 3 to 4 times a week, sometimes more.  It is a small store, but it is convenient & has almost everything I need.  When it no longer carried a major brand item I bought, I could always find a comparable HEB or Hill Country brand. Even though there are 3 other larger HEB stores within a 5 mile radius that carried those major brand items, I choose to buy your brand at this store.

Mr. Charles Butt, Mr Craig Boyan & Mr. Martin Otto I know you all look at numbers, but I implore you to look past those numbers and consider the people that shop at this store. This neighborhood store has been a primary shopping location for several surrounding neighborhoods for several years!  These neighborhoods are a mix of families, elderly, disabled and more.  They depend on this store, it's location and convenience.  If you close it you might well see some of these folks shopping at one of your other close locations, until some other grocery store reopens this location.  At that time I will bet you money you will lose all of those customers.

I implore you to reconsider and listen to the loyal customers that have signed this petition.
