HEAR SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING

The Issue

In December 2021 I was living a simple life. Working a job in Honeoye Central School as the Secretary to the nurse. I had worked for years to secure a spot to be near my children and have a job in the district. Until December 7th, when I received the call that my 16 year old son Aiden had taken his life with an over the counter sleep aid that's only ingredient was dyphenhydromine. Benadryl. Why? Because of bullying from peers at his school, Livonia High School. My life did NOT freeze. The next day I reported to my job, as I knew many kids knew him and would be devastated. I worked up until the school budget cut my position, and gave me no choice but to resign. Oh, but they easily and gladly filled the administration pockets with thousands of dollar bonuses. I have been a safe space for many students in that school, as well as a sounding board for many concerned parents. I went as far as to getting certified as a Mental Health Youth First Aide Responder just so I could be available and help more. Recently, my youngest son has now fallen victim to bullying at Honeoye. Even more, it was reported to me by a staff member, that they heard ANOTHER staff member say that "He got what was coming to him" when he was hit. At that point I reached out via social media and asked parents what they would do, as I was flabergasted. My personal post on my personal Facebook page was turned in to administration and I received a call from an administrator back tracking and telling me that my son "may not have been punched, could be open hand slap." Which tells me she did not check cameras prior to calling me. My child was NOT sent to the nurse, he was asked if he wanted to go. That is NOT an option and is not the protocol. I worked closely with the nurse, so I know that any head injury is to be seen by her so THIS situation does not happen. Because he was acting "normal" and declined her offer, he was not seen. HUGE problem. I was told that the child that hit him likely did it because my son poked him THE DAY PRIOR, almost making an excuse for the other child. "He may have still been angry from being poked" is what was suggested. Poked and being silly as young children will do. Especially 10 year old boys. Both kids, even my child who was physically hit, now has to sit in the principals office for lunch. And this is all ok? It's not "likely" this staff member said such comment, is what I was told, and it will be hard to prove considering it was at lunch and audio on video is hard to make out. And now, my recommendation as a Major Musical Set Designer in the very first musical my son is in, was withdrawn by the principal who recommended me. Why exactly do you think that is? Because they are mental abusers that do as they see fit. They allow this behavior to be acceptable, just as they allow very questionable staff to run the school. Not only have my children been effected by this as well as myself, but other students who respect me, and there are ALOT, now do not get the ability to have me involved in things they may do. They cost my children a safe place to be educated, they have cost me experience and my career. The great lengths they go to just to keep me away from the school is stomach churning. But what is being allowed currently is ok to have in our school, not an empathetic person like myself who is there FOR THE KIDS. Certainly NOT for the pay. They will NOT STOP. Livonia is very similar, and that school actually cost my son his very short life. When is enough, enough? How many kids have to suffer? Lose their life due to negligence from school districts. LISTEN to kids, to people that are trying to help. Who has to stand up for the kids and the people who want to be in the school for the right reasons. ME. I WILL STAND. Will you stand with me?
