We need a Universal Health Insurance to cover lifelong CHD care. In India every year more than 200000 children are born with Congenital Heart Defect (CHD).

CHD is too expensive. Insurance companies do not offer any reasonable policy for CHD. CHD is usually not diagnosed during pregnancy in Indian path labs. So parents don't know if a baby is with CHD till it is born or later. Sometimes CHD is detected so late that the person becomes inoperable. 

In some of the states of India, like Assam, Gujrat, Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan there are state government schemes for the treatment of CHD children upto a certain age. This age bar is different in different states. But what after that age? Will CHD disappear then? No. On the contrary risks are more for different other heart health issues. CHD people require regular check ups and some tests are to be done in every visit to the hospital. A CHD person may require any surgery at any time even after the standard surgeries. They may require procedures like Echo, ECG, EEG, Pacemaker insertion, Change of Pacemaker Battery, Cath at any time of their live. Even heart transplant, heart lung transplant may become the necessity for any CHD person. And these budget are too huge for a middle class family.

Also people have to travel a long distance every time as CHD treatment facilities are not geographically well distributed across India. So travelling, staying in hotels increase the cost again. Lots of CHD families do not go for check up regularly just because of the cost. 

In some states like UP, Maharastra, Bihar, Uttarakhand, MP, there are no such schemes. 

So, we need some Government Universal Health Insurance Policy which will cover each and every CHD person irrespective of their age or family income.

WILL GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HELP THE CHD COMMUNITY TO LIVE A LIFE WITH DIGNITY BY OFFERING A UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY TO COVER LIFELONG CHD CARE?
