Reevaluation Request: The Shooting of a Beloved Pet, Lucky, in River Green – 6/30

On June 30th, a family dog named Lucky was shot and killed in the River Green community of Canton, GA.

We respectfully urge the District Attorney’s office to thoroughly reexamine the evidence in City of Canton Case #202503017, including all witness statements, investigative details, and most importantly, the body camera footage.

The shooter claims he acted out of fear for his life — yet:

There is no evidence of any injury to support that claim.

Multiple witnesses state the dogs were separated & there was no longer any type of threat to the shooter or his dog. The shooter repeatedly refers to all witnesses (most are kids) as liars & punks. He makes no effort to hide his disgust with his neighbors & even complains to detectives in the following days how the horrified onlookers responded to him. His temper is evident.

On body cam footage from the following day, the shooter himself states he once trained military attack dogs during his time in the Air Force — wearing the bite suit.
Despite this experience, he chose to use lethal force against a barking pet in a community park filled with families and children.

The danger of such reckless action cannot be overstated. Firing a weapon in a populated public space could have resulted in far greater tragedy. The bullet that struck Lucky was not located in his body, it traveled thru, to where? Don’t know, but the shooter states he didn’t have good control of the gun when he shot. Comforting.

What’s more troubling is body cam footage from July 2, in which a police officer is seen assuring the shooter he would not be charged — even though the case was not officially closed until July 10. Such assurances during an ongoing investigation raise serious concerns about bias and procedural fairness.

This isn’t just about a dog. It’s about public trust, accountability, and community safety.

We ask that the District Attorney reopen and thoroughly reevaluate this case, to ensure that justice is served — for Lucky, his family, and every resident who wants to feel safe and protected in our neighborhoods.
