He Posed as a Border Patrol Agent to Block Deportations. Demand He Be Held Accountable.
The Issue
Jamie Ernesto Alvarez-Gonzalez did not make a mistake. He made a plan.
He outfitted his black Ford F-150 — the same model used by undercover federal officers — with a Border Patrol sticker, fake radio antennas and a misspelled license plate frame reading "federal truck." He hung handcuffs from his rearview mirror. He carried a fake FBI badge. And then he went looking for Border Patrol agents on active deportation missions in San Diego.
When he found one, he followed him. The agent aborted his mission, believing other agents were responding. Alvarez-Gonzalez then confronted real agents, shouted obscenities and demanded they leave the community. Three other vehicles arrived and joined in harassing and chasing the agents on the highway.
He had recorded himself saying he was actively hunting for federal agents and had brought in reinforcements.
This was not a protest. This was not civil disobedience. This was a coordinated, deliberate effort to impersonate federal law enforcement and obstruct officers carrying out lawful duties. He has now pleaded guilty to impersonating a federal agent and three counts of illegally possessing firearms.
Federal law enforcement officers put themselves at risk every day to carry out their duties. Impersonating them, deceiving them and actively working to disrupt their missions is a serious crime that demands a serious sentence.
We are calling on the Southern District of California to pursue the maximum possible sentence. This kind of conduct cannot be treated lightly. It endangers officers and undermines the rule of law.
Sign this petition and tell the court: impersonating federal agents and disrupting law enforcement must have real consequences.
