For years at Hollis Brookline High School, we students have been gifted with Cav Block. Only a forty-five minute period three days a week, has always been so helpful for all of us. During this period we have been able to catch up with teachers we need help from, work on our homework, and spend time with friends. It has been so helpful and we have always been extremely grateful for it.

This year however, the school has decided to run things a little differently. No longer are we allowed to socialize with the friends we aren’t allowed to talk to in class and can’t see at lunch. No longer can we check in with multiple teachers after being absent. Now we must go out of our way to sign up to go to a room to meet with a teacher that we don’t need help from. Or we must stay confined to one room and one teacher for the entire period, unable to meet with any other teachers that we may desperately need help from as well. Not only does it confine us during a period that used to be flexible in order to meet our needs, but it also forces us to take time out of our already busy and stressful lives to sign up to a class every week. Though this may seem like no big deal, we can’t do it through the PowerSchool app which most of us use on the daily; it is only easily done through a computer, which is not easy.

Though a handful of teachers are offering open rooms, they are bound to fill up quickly and students who actually need to see said teachers will be granted a disadvantage. We understand that the school found issue last year with the fact that people meandered the halls, and they want to change that, but this is definitely not the solution. I am aware that even if the entire student body signs this petition, our school will likely not take our voice into consideration, but maybe they will, and if they do, it only takes two seconds for you to sign this, it may amount to nothing, or it may change everything.
