YWAM Kona, Youth With A Mission, one of the largest YWAM bases in the world as noted on their webpage, has recently been the main cause to our communities first big spike in Positive COVID cases, the highest “new cases number” in the State of Hawaii today, October 5, 2020. The need to protect our small community and island, as well as State, is vital. YWAM has been receiving hundreds of traveling students on their Kailua-Kona campus throughout this pandemic. The students have been witnessed walking around town and congregating in large groups at local beaches, cafes etc without following CDC protocols throughout this pandemic. Our tightly-knit community is highly concerned. We propose to shut down YWAM from receiving any new students from outside the Kailua-Kona area as well as send any non-Hawaii residents back to their place of residence. We request that all residents at YWAM Kona be in a mandatory quarantine/lockdown until the number of positive COVID cases are no longer. They are a major threat to the physical health of our community, as well as the peace of mind to all Big Island residents. We request these actions be taken immediately to ensure safety in our community. Lack to do so will cause disharmony one Kailua-Kona. We ask that our elected government officials act accordingly ASAP!
