Hi! Well now I’m 22 and this week has been another busy one, full of lovely surprises! My birthday on Monday was a lovely day and thank you to all my new friends for your good wishes. I’ve been setting up a new fish tank over the last few weeks and I spent a few hours during that afternoon at the SeaLife Centre in Blackpool which was great. I had lots of lovely presents, including some Bumble Bee Goby fish and some money to buy accessories for my tank :) On Tuesday I went along to Honley Male Voice Choir’s rehearsal where I enjoyed listening to them prepare their music for Christmas and I had an opportunity to thank them for supporting my campaign. I thought I would just sneak in at the back of the room to listen but I was surprised when they started singing ‘Happy Birthday!’ to me before they started their rehearsal properly. Wednesday was another day of surprises. The first was in the form of a message from a friend asking if I was free this weekend to help with a short promotional video. I can’t give any details at this stage, but I was delighted to be asked and so pleased that I’m able to be involved with this project. More details in due course! Then, as if things couldn’t get any better, I received an email later in the evening from someone I’d met earlier this year at a disabled drama network workshop. He asked if I would be willing to play a part in his new play, the character being a young lad with Cerebral Palsy. I was amazed by this opportunity and delighted to accept his offer. It will be great to take part in a real production and next week I’m off to Liverpool for a rehearsal. So watch this space for more news! Thursday was an equally exciting day. I spent most of the day helping to interview applicants who want to work with me as support workers in my new bungalow. I met some great people and was really pleased when four of them accepted job offers later that afternoon. So my future bungalow is fast turning from a dream into reality and I’m so excited about it! When I returned home, another surprise came in the form of an email from London. My local MP Graham Jones has invited me to London to take my campaign petition to Parliament, meet with the Transport Accessibility minister and have a tour of the House of Commons! (And they do have a Changing Places room there!) I could never have imagined that my campaign would have gone this far but it’s amazing to think that just 12 weeks on we achieved such recognition and raised so much awareness of the need for accessible changing places. So I’m looking forward to arranging a trip to a London, my first ever visit to the city. I’d love to do some of the tourist spots and see a show while I’m there ... I can’t wait! Last night was one I’d been looking forward to for a few weeks as I was going to see my friend Dave Spikey on his comedy show tour in Blackburn. It was a great show - lots of laughs and great funny stories, and as promised, Dave met up with me after the show (see photo) to say ‘Hi’ and to chat about my campaign. He has already signed the petition and is sharing it on Twitter and with his friends. ‘Cheers Dave!’ And so to today, Friday, the end of another fun packed week! ... An email from Derian House brought more good news! The fundraising team have managed to find a sponsor to fund the services of ‘Mobiloo’ for the ‘Winter Sparkle’ Christmas fundraising event to be held on Sunday 5th November at Astley Park in Chorley. https://www.derianhouse.co.uk/winter-sparkle/ I’m delighted that this will be the first time that ‘Mobiloo’ will be able to attend and support the fundraising work of Derian House which has given me so much care and so many opportunities over the years. And finally today, another email via Twitter this time, asking if I would consider being the ‘first official ambassador’ for a web based organisation who are working to promote accessibility for disabled people. They are seeking to compile a comprehensive list of accurate accessibility reviews of public venues, tourist sites, accommodation and transport links around the country. In my experience this is such a valuable service and I’m looking forward to getting involved when the new website is launched :) So it looks like I’m in for a very busy few weeks, not to mention all the dates already in the campaign diary! As ever, thanks for your continued interest, enthusiasm and support for my campaign. Zack & my team
