Well, as I predicted, yesterday turned out to be a great day! In the morning I went to meet Matt, one of the ‘Mobiloo’ team, who had driven up to Accrington with a Mobiloo trailer for a local community fun day. As soon as he met me he said, “You must be Zack! It’s great to meet a celebrity! I’ve heard so much about you and your campaign is amazing!” It was fantastic to see inside one of the Mobiloo vehicles for myself having heard so much about them, and to hear Matt talk of their ambitious plans for the future. These vehicles really can make any event fully accessible for disabled people and wheelchair users like myself. http://mobiloo.org.uk/ I hope we’ll soon be spotting these vans and trailers all over the country, making outdoor events, festivals, sporting matches, country shows all fully accessible. It was great to talk to Matt, who is so enthusiastic and passionate about the work and truly understands the challenges which so many people face when needing suitable changing place facilities. Well done guys! Your work is inspirational and I hope we can continue to support each other’s efforts long into the future. The weather was awful yesterday as storm ‘Brian’ made himself known, but I didn’t want it to put me off going to the concert at Fountains Abbey. In spite of the relentless rain, I made it across the grass and muddy paths to the abbey in my wheelchair with just a few skids and a little assistance! The concert was great and it was good to catch up with many friends and supporters from Honley Male Voice Choir who have been so supportive of my campaign sincerely the start. Lots of them have been very helpful with retweeting my campaign story and as we returned to our cars at the end of the night one of the guys asked me if I’d reached 80,000 signatures yet? “Not quite, we said. We’re on about 76,000 today!” He seemed sure that we’d reach 80,000 soon! So imagine my amazement when we got home and checked the campaign page! Not only had the petition achieved 80,000 signatures, we were now well on the way to 87,000 - over 12,000 more supporters had signed up in just one day! I was blown away! Today has been a far more relaxing day, spent mainly at home. I’ll let yiu into a secret ... tomorrow is my birthday and I guess I’ll have to edit the first line of my campaign introduction to say that I’m now 22! As I head to bed tonight the total has already risen well above 90,000. What an amazing birthday it would be to see the total smash 100,000 on my birthday! Thanks again for all your messages of encouragement and support. It’s great to know that so many people are behind me and cheering me on. Night night. Zack (still 21, but only just)
