I've not been feeling too good today and have been quite unwell most of the day, but it didn't stop me working on my campaign! I helped with transfer printing a few more tshirts ready to post out on Monday and we did some research into the exact locations of the motorway service stations in the U.K. with Changing Places. There are 14, which we've marked with circles on the attached map. 13 of these are listed on the www.motorwayservicesonline.co.uk website, but as you can see they are all in the Midlands and southern regions. The nearest to me in Accrington is on the M6 Toll road near Birmingham (the only one operated by RoadChef) and the most northerly is on the M1 at Donington, operated by Moto. The brown lines on the map represent journeys I have made over the summer with my family, none of which pass by any Changing Places on the motorways on M6, M5, M66, M62, M61, M65, M602, M60, M50 ... do I need to go on?! I'd be glad to hear from Welcome Brak, Moto or RoadChef as to where they are planning their next installations.
In other news, I've been contacted by 2BR Radio (Blackburn & Burnley) and also by Beyond Radio (Lancaster & Morcambe) who both want to feature my story. Beyond Radio have arranged an interview with me for next month which is great for promoting the campaign further. I've also been asked to write an article about my campaign for CarersLink magazine in Lancashire and very generously, my friends at Honley Male Voice Choir have offered me a free page advertisement about my campaign in their concert programme for Saturday 9th September, at St Paul's Hall in Huddersfield. I love to go and listen to the choir when I can and this concert will be extra special as the choir have the world famous, one-handed pianist, Nicholas McCarthy as their guest. I'm looking forward to meeting him as he's another amazing advocate for people with disabilities, showing what we can achieve! If you want more information about the concert, then look up @HonleyMVC on Facebook or Twitter or go to their website www.honleymvc.co.uk. Some tickets are still available, so don't miss it, and if you come along, be sure to look out for me and say 'Hi'!
I hope to feel better tomorrow. Meanwhile please keep sharing my campaign. Every day I'm finding more and more disability support and groups on Twitter so there's lots of support out there and the message needs spreading.
Thanks
Zack
