Well the campaign is now 3 weeks old and today we broke the 40,000 signatures target! Thank you to everyone who has supported, signed and shared so far. I haven't been feeling too well today, but I still made it into Accrington town centre this afternoon as a friend of mine had asked me to do the countdown and send off for a cycle ride from Accrington to Lourdes, which he is doing with 2 others in aid of raising funds to take some local disabled children to Lourdes. I was lucky enough to go on this trip 3 years ago so I was delighted to support them today. I wore my campaign tshirt and lots of people saw me, recognised me from the tv report and newspaper articles and said they were supporting my campaign! I felt like a celebrity in my own town :)
I have also been in contact with some of my friends at the local BBC TV and Radio to update them on the progress and one of the Radio Lancashire presenters is going to arrange for me to be on the radio again next week and we a going to try and get Moto and Welcome Break to give a response. I had a twitter message from one of the service station operators today saying that they object to me accusing them of 'discrimination' against disabled travellers and suggesting that I should use their website to plan my journeys around the UK where there are changing places already installed on the motorways! In which case, a a journey from Accrington to Swansea would have to go somewhere via the M1, M40 or M25! Talk about making me mad?! There's still a lot of ignorance surrounding this issue so please keep supporting and sharing your experiences.
We are aiming for 50,000 next! Safe travelling over the bank holiday weekend and if you come across a changing places room on the UK motorway network then please send me a photo or a tweet!
Thanks,
Zack
