HAUMEA IS A PEBBLE

The Issue

Haumea should be considered as an asteroid due to it's elongated ellipsoid shape, which doesn't clearly meet the criteria for being a dwarf planet. It may mean it isn't in hydrostatic equilibrium. Children may be affected by this as it might make them believe that mere asteroids are also dwarf planets, meaning it could confuse them when other spacial objects aren't qualified as dwarf planets when they have a similar shape to Haumea.

If things change, then the criteria for dwarf planets will be clear, as Haumea doesn't exactly fit the criteria of having enough gravity to keep itself a 'round shape'. If Haumea was to be unclassified as a dwarf planet, it will be easier to both explain and understand dwarf planets, as explaining how Haumea is classified as one may spark confusion.

We are rapidly heading towards the future, so now should be the time to change it's classification. If we change it now then the future of scientific research will be more developed to identify more spacial objects as dwarf planets or others. This will also help when (and if) humans explore deeper into space, so they could classify things easier.
