Hasty Removal of Paula White-Cain with a Respected Leader to represent Christians

The Issue

Petition Description: In light of President Donald Trump's appointment of Pastor Paula White-Cain to lead the White House Faith Office, we respectfully call for a change in leadership that better reflects the diversity of Christian traditions in America. This role requires someone with theological integrity, moral character, and the ability to unite Christians from different backgrounds, whether Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant.

The Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, and other original apostolic Christian churches represent billions of Christians worldwide and millions of Americans. Similarly, respected Protestant pastors with sound theological integrity and strong pastoral leadership have guided countless communities in faith and service. Leaders from these traditions bring deep experience in social outreach and a commitment to the authentic Gospel, making them uniquely qualified to guide faith-based initiatives in the U.S. government.

Why Paula White-Cain is Not Fit for This Role:

  1. Controversial Theology: Paula White-Cain is a prominent figure in the Prosperity Gospel movement, which teaches that material wealth and success are signs of God's favor. This teaching contradicts the traditional Christian understanding of the Gospel, which emphasizes humility, self-denial, and service (cf. Luke 9:23, Matthew 6:19-21).
  2. Heretical Statements: White-Cain has made alarming statements such as claiming, "Jesus is not the only begotten Son of God," which contradicts core Christian doctrine. According to the Nicene Creed (AD 325), Jesus is the "only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages." In another instance, she implied that Christians can be considered "gods," echoing a dangerous misinterpretation often associated with Word of Faith teachings. These doctrinal deviations are irreconcilable with Christian orthodoxy.
  3. Abuses of Spiritual Gifts: White-Cain is known for promoting a distorted version of the biblical gift of tongues, involving emotional and unintelligible babbling not found in the apostolic tradition. The Church has long cautioned against such misuses of spiritual gifts (cf. 1 Corinthians 14:9-19), which should edify the Church, not cause confusion or spectacle.
  4. Angelic Misrepresentations: In widely criticized public appearances, White-Cain has claimed to "dispatch angels from Africa" for divine purposes. This statement, alongside other sensationalist claims, undermines the seriousness of authentic Christian spiritual warfare and doctrine on angels.
  5. Financial Exploitation: White-Cain has publicly encouraged congregants to give financial offerings before paying essential bills like mortgages and utility bills. This exploitation of vulnerable individuals for personal gain has drawn widespread criticism, including accusations of promoting a "Pay-to-Pray" mentality.
  6. Questionable Personal Conduct: White-Cain has been involved in multiple controversies surrounding her personal relationships and leadership practices, including public accusations of inappropriate associations with other controversial figures such as televangelist Benny Hinn. Such scandals detract from the moral integrity expected of spiritual leaders.
  7. Limited Representation: White-Cain's appointment does not adequately reflect the broader Christian community in America. Apostolic Christian churches, including Catholics and Eastern Orthodox, adhere to theological traditions that have guided Christian faith and practice for nearly two millennia. Additionally, there are numerous respected Protestant pastors and leaders, known for their sound theological stances and commitment to public service, who could serve in this role without controversy.
  8. Desire for Theologically Sound Leadership: Many Christians long for leadership that reflects the objective, historically-rooted faith of the apostolic churches and respected Protestant traditions, without being clouded by modern innovations or sensationalism. Leaders from Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant backgrounds with strong theological foundations bring continuity with early Church teachings and offer authentic representation of Christian values.

Our Request: We call for the replacement of Paula White-Cain with a leader who embodies theological soundness, integrity, and humility. This could be a Catholic cardinal, an Orthodox patriarch or bishop, a high-ranking representative from any of the original apostolic churches, or a universally respected Protestant pastor with a strong commitment to Christian orthodoxy.

We respectfully request:

That Pastor Paula White-Cain be removed from her role as leader of the White House Faith Office.
That her replacement be someone from the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, another apostolic Christian tradition, or a well-regarded Protestant leader.
This change will ensure greater representation for Christians whose faith is deeply rooted in ancient and global traditions, fostering unity and inclusion in faith-based government initiatives.
