The Flaxmere Christian Fellowship plans to develop a new community hub facility and housing development that will support and be available for community use. It plans to build: residential housing; a Youth Facility; an Early Childhood facility; an Auditorium/Function center which will include a soup kitchen. We have submitted a proposal to Council to purchase neighboring vacant land to develop this vision but are concerned that Council are going to sell the land to government for social housing alone. The Council are due to make a decision on March 19 about the sale of this land and the government is submitting its proposal. We are concerned the housing may be “transitional” or “high density” and that the project is being pushed through behind closed doors without proper community consultation.

The great majority of the residents who live in the immediate vicinity of 244 Flaxmere Avenue do not want Housing NZ to put social housing there. They would prefer the Church's Community plan.

We formally ask the Hastings District Council NOT to sell the land at 244 Flaxmere Avenue until an open community consultation process is conducted by the council with the community of Flaxmere.
