We, the fans of Jem, are extremely displeased with the big mistakes Jon M.Chu is making with his Jem and the Holograms film. Jon and his male dominated team (Scooter Braun and Blumhouse Productions) don't even know what Jem is all about, yet here they are helming a film about the beloved 80s cartoon series and doll line. Jem is not only about music, fashion and fame, but also female empowerment. Yet this film is being led by MEN trying to write about women/girls. It doesn't make much sense, does it?

Not to mention, Jon works with Justin Bieber-Justin has been involved with criminal activity and people will begin to link Jem with his misdemeanors... Then, there is the hoopla about Christy Marx, THE SOLE CREATOR AND WRITER OF THE JEM STORY, who has no involvement with this film what so ever. How can a film be successful if the creator of the original characters and story is completely shut out of the production? This is not only disrespectful to the original content, but also completely ridiculous.

Also, with a faked worldwide casting call for fans (used only as a scheme for viral marketing for the film), we, the fans, feel lied to and taken advantage of. Jon asked us, the fans, to help with the film: he promised us a dream of being IN the film (even though he secretly already cast his stars months beforehand-again, this lie was only to create publicity for the film). He abused all the hopeful and talented people and struggling artists who broke their backs working on audition videos for this fake casting call and those who created and designed free media for his film. We are absolutely outraged that we were deceived like that, all in the name of some free promotion.

And then there is the ridiculous casting of Shana! Shana is a BLACK WOMAN, not a mixed/Anglo-Saxon. This is known as "white-washing". No hate towards the actress trying to portray Shana, but she's just not right for the part. We know it, Chu knows it, EVERYBODY knows it.

In fact, NO ONE wanted this vision for a live action Jem film-yet, this entire film was supposedly "crowd sourced"? Again, it doesn't make sense. We feel like we've been blown off. Who would waste their money on a low-budget, pre-cast (complete with a viral marketing deception of making FANS the stars),inaccurate and insulting movie? There's so many of us who are just saying "NO". Stop the Jem and the Holograms film! Find someone else to do the story, but not Jon Chu. He changed the story, the characters' appearances, ages, music and everything that made Jem...Jem! Please realize Jon M. Chu's Jem film will be a waste of your time, our time, your money and our money. Please listen to us and WE are the ones that can make or break the film. The more horrible it is, the less revenue you will get from Jon's JemtheMovie. Yes, we were thrilled to hear Jem come to life after 30 years, but Jon and his team are NOT cut out for the job.
