Harvard Market to address parking lot security shortcomings

The Issue

There has been a huge uptick in violent crime in the outdoor parking lot of Harvard Market (1400 Broadway, Seattle, WA). The number of stabbings and shootings taking place in this market are getting out of control, and by refusing to take any action to improve their lot security, Harvard Market is complicit in these terrible crimes which make the immediate area unsafe and which put an undue burden on our police and paramedic resources.

The parking lot has also become a nighttime haven of drug dealers and users, and the residential properties in the immediate vicinity are often disrupted late at night due to impromptu parties, squealing tires, arguments, and fistfights.

At the very minimum, the market must put up 24-hour CCTV cameras and related signage in conspicuous locations and make their recordings immediately available to the police when an incident occurs. They should also have a security patrol that monitors the parking lot at night and ensures that people are not loitering or engaging in violent or illegal activities.

Some form of after-hours access control to the parking lot should also be enacted, in such a way that it does not impede the usage of the residential properties' attached garages (or with access granted to said properties' tenants).

We absolutely cannot stand for these issues to continue, as they are a blight on our community and a detriment to everyone's well-being.
