The Issue

For years, I have tirelessly walked the streets of Attica, Indiana, confronted daily with the overwhelming issue of our feral cat population. Despite efforts to implement Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, the problem persists. Every day, I spend four exhausting hours tending to the feral cat colonies at Harrison Steel Casting Company, offering them makeshift shelters, food, and water. These cats account for a third of our town's feral population, posing significant challenges not only for the cats themselves but also for the workers and the community at large.

The municipal ordinances in Attica currently do not permit the care of feral cats, putting both these animals and workers at risk — something deemed illegal throughout our entire state. Without urgent intervention, the safety of these animals and the success of local businesses are in jeopardy. As a community, we can come together to solve this issue. If Harrison Steel, a hub and mogul for Fountain County, were to accept its social responsibility and lead the charge, we could effectively manage these colonies and significantly improve the situation.

I am emotionally and financially drained from supporting these colonies alone. The thought of our city ordinance preventing me from helping these innocent creatures and the potential legal repercussions is heartbreaking. With Harrison Steel's influence and support, we have an opportunity to protect our community's future from a potentially disastrous situation.

I urge Harrison Steel to incorporate a controlled monitoring system for these feral cat colonies, aligning with the state's legal guidelines and working in harmony with local TNR efforts. Such a program would not only mitigate safety risks but also ensure the health and welfare of the cats and enhance the overall working conditions for employees.

This is a crucial moment for Harrison Steel and Attica to set an example of corporate and community responsibility. Taking action now will not only save the lives of countless cats but will also foster a more unified and compassionate community as we secure a brighter future for Attica.

Help make a difference by signing this petition and urging Harrison Steel Casting Company to take responsibility and protect these feral cat colonies. Together, we can bring about the change needed to ensure safety and compassion for all involved.
