Most people are unaware of the impact that AI has on our climate.

There is so many great things that the internet has provided and helped for the world. Lots of research that has saved peoples lives , given people information that may not be easy to understand, and helping people learn , but we have taken that for advantage in the wrong ways. With the recent creation of Artificial Intelligence the internet has been abused like never before. AI is fascinatingly powerful with all it can do which could lead to good and dangerous things depending on how we use it, AI could help us with humanity, peace on earth, fixing civilization, fixing climate change and a huge amount of more things that need help, reliability to build a safe future, and human kindness and equality.  But sadly thats not what most people are doing with it. Thats not only harming humans knowledge,  intelligence, and communication skills which can get you very far not just in school. But bringing a huge amount of harm to the environment and the world around us. AI is being pushed into everything we use. Most websites now either have a AI button, AI ads or it just straight up AIs it for you. People r being forced to use it when they don't want, this consistent use is unnecessary and damaging.  Humans creativity are also being harmed. AI taking over art, animation, music, films, writing, and so many more other creative jobs that come from real human emotions. Watching and listening to something made by a machine robot takes away the meaningfulness of it. Many people don’t even realize when somethings AI generated anymore, which is very scary making the internet even more unreliable. Relying on AI everyday also weakens our own thinking skills. Instead of using our brains people immediately think "oh ill just ask AI it knows everything". Our brains are meant to struggle and think to be able to grow, we weren’t meant to be here just to let machines take over how we think, especially in the school system. According to a recent article published by PBS (How Artificial Intelligence Is Reshaping College for Students and Professors. November 2025) a survey was taken and found out that at least 86 precent of students use AI tools like chat gpt, gauth AI, google gemini, and many more, its transformed students performance in school so much, making tests that used to take hours and essays that would take days into something that can be done in under 10 minutes. 

I am a student who has tested what AI can do but i understand the damage and harm so no longer use it unless it’s forced into a website i use, which is very unsettling. I also do understand it can help a lot of people, especially in school since it can be hard, quite overwhelming and cheaper than a tutor. Many students now depend on it for all of their work, setting back their learning skills while others who don’t use it, actually taking their time get flagged for using it. That creates an unfairness and discourages real hard work and learning.

Majority of AI users don’t even fully understand how AI works , they are just using it for the "easier option". We don’t know whats happening behind the scenes unless you do your research but even then, People are giving big amounts of personal information and control to something we don’t even fully understand or know of who sees it , what they do with the data and where they put it, and if data leaks happen that could cause lots more problem's. Data leaks revolving around AI are becoming common, with a 60+% rate mainly because the rapid growth the technology has, its outpaced the implementation of necessary security measures. Even tho millions benefit from using artificial intelligence and we could be using it all for good, we also need to understand the consequences it has on the environment and our health. Of course the internet itself uses lots of energy, thats inevitable and will happen but now since AIs created it has increased by a insane amount. Soon the harm may be irreversible if we don't act soon, this is our future so it depends on everyone. 

It’s not good to be talking to a AI robot in your everyday life and taking advantage of what it can do by not using it appropriate. Such as creating stupid videos of random stuff that you will only look at most likely once, think its just bs then forgets about it. Creating all this fake news, art , and photos is quite unnecessary and unfair for the people who want to use it for things that actually could help. When you use AI it’s just contributing to the creators, making them want to continue growing the artificial Intelligence internet when we frankly don't need it and or we could just have one helpful controlled one.  

We knew AI was one day going to become a thing in our life but i don’t think people understood the effect it has and the power it holds. Even the people who know what could happen and understand, are still using it, its just sad because why would u want to contribute that much harm to the earth when your not even using AI for the right things. Since it's everywhere it is quite hard to fully avoid using it so educate yourself on how to use it appropriately.  I know you may say "I'm only one person so it wont do anything” but when everyone’s saying that, it matters and will have a effect.

One person may feel small when trying to make a change but together as a group we grow, it only takes one to start sharing there voice for others to realize they r not alone and so many people feel the same way, wanting a change. All our voices should be heard if we want to protect ourselves and mother nature.

At a time when the world is already facing so many problems like pollution , climate change , not providing food, water, and housing for people when theres clearly enough , mass production , overconsumption and so much more. Increasing the amount of AI we use will only make it worse. AI relies on massive data centers that use extreme amounts of electricity and clean water we drink, polluting our air as well as the water. These data centers require the water to cool down servers, and much of that water is lost through evaporation. Some data centers can use up to 5 million gallons of water per day, which is about the same amount used by an entire town of tens of thousands of people. Every chat sent to AI uses water, using at least 16oz just for 20-50 chats depending on the size of them. Around 500 million people daily use AI so just imagine how much water that costs us. Data centers for AI use 30 times the amount of energy then a normal google search, in the next couple years data centers usage of electricity is estimated to double or even triple as AI use increases, global water consumption related to data centers is expected to reach billions of cubic meters by 2027. 

 We are not asking for AI to disappear all the way. We just want responsible limits and reducing unnessaesroy usage of it. Which includes

Slowing down the expansion of AI features on websites

Limiting the use of AI for non essential purposes like fake images and videos 

Protecting human made items such as art, music, jobs , and creativity

Being transperetnt with the world about the impact AI has on our envoirment

Stricter laws revolving around AI

Teaching students how to use it properly since its here and may not go away for a while

Encouraging learning and problem solving without any AI dependence

and more 

If a forest is alredy burning, why would u want to throw more wood into it if you know it will just make it so much worse. Our planet is suffering enough and if we continue the use of AI without limits , it will cause irreversible damage. 

If we want clean air, fresh water, and a safe future for ourselves and the next generations we need to act now. Please sign this petition to help slow down the harmful overuse of Artificial Intelligence. And if we are strong enough the best resistance is to not give up and keep making REAL ART and REAL MUSIC and form REAL CONNECTIONS!! don't let ourselves slip into this disgusting Digital intelligence world, we must remind ourselves whats real and the intelligence and power humans have to make a change.
