Congratulations. You did it! 1,349 people, in this simple act, made it clear to Haringey Council that they would not tolerate the possibility of an individual abusing the rights and freedoms of the many in pursuing a planning action that had no benefit to the community and that would affect their ability to access and enjoy a local Nature Reserve. The petition sent a clear message to the Planning department, Parks department and Council Cabinet members of Haringey Council that outside of elections, the electorate still has a relevance and a voice. In relation to the planning application at 3 Francis Place that we have been challenging, I recieved an email on 30th October from the Deputy Team Leader of Haringey Planners stating that 'The applicant has decided to withdraw their current application, and this will take effect immediately.' This statement indicates that the applicant may submit another application and we will watch Haringey's Planning Application Portal closely to monitor any further submissions. We believe the council has made a commitment to stand by all the clauses in the Covenant that is part of the Deeds for 3 Francis Place, denying access to the property by vehicles via the Parkland Walk and including a ban on the removal of soil or gravel from the site. We hope this clause will seriously limit the type of application that might be submitted in the future. This result shows the great value in taking positive action, in not assuming an individual is powerless, but recognising that by being one, you can be part of a single body of very many more. The Friends of the Parkland Walk would like to thank you for signing the petition and the many who also submitted objections directly to the planning department and the Ham and High who followed the story with interest. We would also like to thank Cllr Bob Hare (Highgate) for his assistance and advice and change.org for facilitating our petition. Please continue to stay in touch by following us on Twitter @Friends_of_PW or @ParklandWalk or on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/FoTPW or sign up for our newsletters by selecting the link on our website http://www.parkland-walk.org.uk/ The Friends also carry out valuable conservation work on Parkland Walk, meeting on the second Saturday of each month. If you care to lend a hand, we'd be delighted to see you. Best wishes, The Friends of the Parkland Walk
