Reducing Harbury's Carbon Footprint

The Issue

The carbon footprint of Harbury is currently 11% higher than the national average for a village of its size.

Because of this, Harbury e-Wheels are fighting to push forward a project that will reduce the Carbon Dioxide that Harbury outputs.

They aim to put in place the following:

  • Extend the playing fields car park with new spaces, some of which will support electric vehicle charging.
  • Install a large battery in the location of the playing fields which will store power for these vehicle chargers.
  • Place a number of solar panels on the roof of the village hall which will charge the battery.
  • Finally, to charge the battery in times of bad light, they want to place a small wind generator on the edge of the playing field. This generator uses groundbreaking technology and therefore is considerably smaller than the traditional wind turbines used in wind farms, produces no noise, creates no impact to the environment and is discreet and highly efficient.

The four parts to this project will make electric vehicle charging in the village more accessible which they hope will encourage members of the village to purchase electric vehicles.

As the human species is forced to change to lessen our negative impact on the environment and slow climate change, we want Harbury to be in the forefront of this vital transition. As a rural community, with a current high carbon footprint, we believe that we have a civic responsibility to support Harbury e-Wheels in this development and reduce our environmental impact.
