Harbour Air Cuts Sunshine Coast Services

Harbour Air Cuts Sunshine Coast Services
The Issue
Residents, businesses and tourists will be affected by the deep cuts in Harbour Air services out of Sechelt. As an essentially isolated community, this situation further limits access to reasonable transportation off Coast. We need medical transportation for appointments and treatment, excellent alternative to already stressed ferry services. Businesses rely on Harbour Air for transportation of staff and materials. Harbour Air frequently transports visitors who bring tourism dollars to the Coast. Connections for family and friends visiting their loved ones will also be restricted and little options are available for alternate means of transportation. Taxpayers who have properties here often use air transport to visit here and their choices will also be restricted.
We have another seaplane carrier on the Coast, however, they are a much smaller operation and will not be able to take up the void left by Harbour Air. They do not have the infrastructure nor planes to compensate for the loss. Their fares are already higher than Harbour Air and should they have to expand, fares will be even higher. This would only cause further restriction of the ability to access alternative transport.
This is an URGENT matter as the Harbour Air calendar shows blacked out schedules after October 7. We must have an opportunity to voice major concerns about the Harbour Air cut in service. Hopefully our elected officials will also join our voices.
