We, the undersigned, express our full support for the lawful renaming of Graaff-Reinet to Robert Sobukwe Town.

This renaming was undertaken through the proper legal and democratic processes in accordance with South African law. It represents a long-overdue recognition of one of the nation’s most principled liberation leaders, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.

Robert Sobukwe dedicated his life to the struggle for land, dignity, and African self-determination. Honouring his legacy through this renaming is a step toward correcting historical imbalances in our public spaces.

We are concerned by ongoing protests and legal attempts aimed at reversing this lawful decision. While democratic engagement is a constitutional right, reversing transformation that has followed due legal process undermines progress and reconciliation.

We therefore:

• Affirm our support for the official name Robert Sobukwe Town
• Support the preservation of lawful government decisions
• Call on all institutions and representatives to respect the democratic process
• Reject efforts to reverse legitimate transformation
