Hands off parents properties, every child has a right to learn

The Issue

Petition : Ensuring Every Child's Right to Education Without Discrimination**

To: The Government and Ministry of Education

Subject: Taking Just and Compassionate Action Towards Families Unable to Pay School Fees.

Introduction:
We, the concerned citizens, strongly believe in the fundamental right of every child to receive an education. This belief is enshrined in numerous human rights declarations and our national constitution. However, there are alarming reports of government schools taking punitive measures against families in suburbs who are unable to pay school fees, including threats of property auctions from Attorneys . Such actions directly contradict the principle that every child has a right to learn and thrive.

Main Points of the Petition:

1. Reaffirm the Right to Education for All:
   - We urge the government to reaffirm that every child has an inalienable right to education, irrespective of their family's financial standing.

2. Stop Punitive Measures:
   - We call for an immediate halt to any policies or practices that result in the auctioning of parents' properties or any form of punishment for families unable to pay school fees. These measures are unjust, increase inequality, and can have severe, long-lasting effects on the well-being of children and their families.

3. Introduce Financial Support Mechanisms:
   - The government should implement or enhance existing financial aid programs, such as scholarships, fee waivers, and grants for families in need, ensuring that no child is excluded from education due to economic hardships.

4. Promote Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
   - Encourage the involvement of communities, non-governmental organizations, and private sectors in supporting government schools, providing additional resources, and aiding families struggling with school-related expenses.

5. Create an Oversight Committee:
   - Establish an independent committee to oversee the fair and compassionate handling of cases where families are unable to pay school fees. This committee should include representatives from education authorities, parents, and child advocacy groups.

6. Awareness and Counseling Programs:
   - Develop programs to raise awareness about the importance of education and provide counseling and support to families facing financial difficulties. Ensuring they are aware of all available resources and support systems.

7. Transparent Communication:
   - Schools must maintain transparent communication with parents regarding fees and any financial aid available. Regularly inform them about government policies protecting the right to education.

Education is a cornerstone for the development of any society. Punishing children and their families for their financial limitations is not only inhumane but counterproductive. We urge the government to take swift and concrete actions to prevent any such practices and to ensure that every child, regardless of their economic background, has access to quality education. Let's work together to create an inclusive educational system where every child can thrive and contribute to the future of our nation.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue affecting our children and our future.

Sincerely,
