On behalf of all students, and most especially student-athletes, the decision to not allow students and other family members to attend sporting events is disheartening. Most students have been looking forward to the return to sports in our schools for almost two years now. The opportunity to represent their school on a team is something every student will remember for the rest of their life. A key component of this memory is fans. Our parents, family members, staff and friends are what make sporting events in our board a truly special event. For the grade 12 students, this will most likely be the last season of organized sports they will ever play. Due to this, this will most likely be the last time for those students for their parents, family and friends to watch them play.  
Additionally, the decision to only allow 2 fans per player (that cannot be a student) goes directly against Ontario’s parameters for outdoor sporting events, where a capacity of 70% is permitted.  The stands in our football fields have a very large capacity and would allow for a large amount of distance between fans. The DSBN has overturned their original plan of no fans to allow for a 70% capacity of fans at outdoor sporting events. We, the HWCDSB Student trustees and presidents' council hope to overturn the original decision of not allowing beyond 2 fans per player at outdoor sporting events.
