Save this Shar pei cross from being euthanized and help find a loving home or foster.
The Issue
This Shar Pei/ Fila cross is in Quarantine at Hamilton Animal Services and may be euthanized despite unclear reports of biting a man. Initially the dog was to be euthanized for "mauling" a man to death. As the story and reports began providing more details, it became clear there were obvious flaws in reporting and "eye witness accounts" became more opinion than fact. The only things known for certain are the dogs mouth touched the man who passed away and the man passed away from causes unrelated to this incident, (presumably a heart attack). Many are speculating the dog may have sensed the impending medical emergency and acted based on it. Original accounts by witnesses said the dog mauled his neck and therefore was beaten with a bat in an attempt to save the man. According to more recent reports the only area affected was his hands. There are no accounts that the dog has been assessed by a veterinarian and thus no treatment for potential injuries has been provided
There are many individuals offering to foster and attempt to further assess or rehabilitate. It is clear the dog is DID NOT KILL this man and most likely was responding to the situation.
Ideally the dog could be assessed beyond animal services protocol by an independent behaviorists for a longer in depth analysis.
At this point in time the dog remains in quarantine and the dogs fate will be determined July 19th, 2015
JULY 18th, 2015 - Reworded to address new information published by CBC.ca

"Despite (INCORRECT) reports of this dog attacking someone to death in Hamilton Ontario, it has been proven by autopsy that the man DID NOT have any dog bites on him and passed away from a heart attack. The story was reported with obvious flaws and although more facts have been shared, including reports from the deceased family that the dog DID NOT injure the man, the dogs fate is still in question. The dog is in quarantine at HAC and may be euthanized."
