Why this petition matters

During the year 2021, students have expressed concerns multiple times about the stress and anxiety from the idea of Midterms. As known, our school has been through so much trauma this year including gun threats, a stabbing, and now a high spike of Covid 19 cases. So many students have missed classes due to not being able to get into school on time and being quarantined. This puts these students at a huge disadvantage compared to other students. Due to all of these incidents, students now feel pressure, stress, anxiety, and feel that they are falling behind in many different aspects. It would be hard to find a student who feels prepared mentally and academically for these tests and the support of this petition is a reflection of that feeling. Also, many classes are based on things that we have learned last year, which as we all know was a very difficult time for everyone. In addition, now with teachers not being at school as often and students having multiple substitutes in a day, it is causing them to fall behind in their learning just for the midterms to stay on the same days. With teachers having covid or being quarantined, we the students are not learning anything and are either sitting in class doing makeup work or going to the auditorium to do nothing.

With the unpredictable spikes of Covid 19 cases, students feel it is unfair to put pressure on such heavily weighted tests on us and that they will not properly evaluate what we have actually learned throughout this year. There are many different alternatives to showing what students have learned than midterms; such as adding a few more tests/quizzes to each class that is not weighted as much.

Please consider how the students of our school feel and the amount of stress this is putting on us.
