The Issue

Sign this petition to support advanced, college-level programs in our high schools. These programs have a significant impact on the lives of high-achieving students, providing them with the necessary skills and opportunities to excel and become the next generation of leaders. The passage of bills HB5101 and SB2510 would cut the funding for these critical programs in half, which would inevitably lead to program cuts and fewer opportunities for students overall. In an outrageous effort to sneak these bills through each chamber, both the House and Senate have scheduled the vote less than two weeks after they were written, which makes opposition against these cuts incredibly difficult.

Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses not only boost the academic achievements of high school students but also significantly improve their readiness for college. The Department of Education has published a myriad of research over the last decade, more specifically in April of 2017, that revealed students are more likely to find success in postsecondary education when they partake in collegiate programs in High School. Cutting funding for these programs could hinder the future success of our students, our communities, and our nation.

By preventing the vote on HB5101 and SB2510, we can protect the sanctity of our state's education, support our aspiring leaders, and give our students the opportunities they deserve. It's crucial to take action now to protect our students and our future. We ask that you urge your State Representative and Senator to halt the vote on HB5101 and SB2510. Your signature is a promise to our young learners – a promise to invest in their futures. Sign the petition now.
