Halt the Unlawful Felling of 'Poppy' the Tree in Southend-on-Sea

Halt the Unlawful Felling of 'Poppy' the Tree in Southend-on-Sea
The Issue
I stand before you as an incensed and deeply concerned resident of Southend-on-Sea, pleading for your support to prevent a grave and egregious act. Estuary Housing has planned an illicit felling of a beloved tree - our beloved 'Poppy' - with only a week's notice and zero correspondence ahead of this draconian decision. This act isn't only an affront to the neighbourhood community, it's a direct assault against our local wildlife.
Nestled in 'Poppy's' branches, we currently have wood pigeons, magpies, collared doves, bats and possibly a squirrel family, all of whom rely on this sanctuary for their survival. With no other trees standing close by - all tragically felled - these animals face not only displacement but injury and death should 'Poppy' be faced with the same fate.
Southend-on-Sea is a region rich in natural beauty, and the reckless removal of trees poses an irrevocable threat to our ecosystem. It has been proven that urban trees contribute significantly to biodiversity, supporting various flora and fauna, in addition to filtering air pollutants and producing oxygen (Forestry Commission England). With each tree axed, we are relinquishing these vital benefits.
The illegal felling of trees is a violation of the UK Forestry Act (1967), and residents have the right to contest such actions (Statute Law UK). We therefore call upon the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to intervene and impede the illegal felling of 'Poppy', thus preserving the natural heritage of our neighborhood and ensuring the survival of the resident wildlife.
Raise your voice against this planned shortsighted operation. Protect 'Poppy'. Save our wildlife. Sign the petition today!
