The Issue

The Makinde family, who have been integral contributors to the Canadian economy since November 2017, are currently facing a deportation order issued by the Canadian border authorities. This action threatens to tear this stable and economically supportive family apart, particularly threatening the education of the children. Since their arrival in Canada, the Makindes have actively participated in the labor force, contributing to the economic growth while valuing the privilege of living in such a diverse and inclusive nation.

Beyond their economic contributions, this deportation will also disrupt their lives drastically, with the erratic displacement from their community and concerning effects on the children's educational advancement. Many studies have shown that deportation often inflicts harmful psychological effects on the deported individuals and their family members, with children being the most vulnerable of the affected (American Psychological Association, 2018).

This decision of targeting such a beneficial, contributing family seems disproportionate and unjust. We urge the relevant border and immigration authorities of Canada to reevaluate this action and provide the Makinde family with an opportunity to contest their deportation.

Together we can take action to prevent this untoward disruption in their lives. Please sign this petition to lend your support to the Makinde family.
