Halt the Systematic Oppression and Mistreatment of Autistic Individuals in the U.S.

The Issue

On a personal note, I am an Autistic individual, and so is my daughter who, distressingly enough, was kidnapped amid grave circumstances. While undergoing extreme torcher in an emergency room, I helplessly experienced the harrowing reality of what it feels like to be trapped.

Our experience is not singular. Thousands of Autistic individuals across the U.S. go through similar distressing situations each day. An oppressive system perpetuates systematic mistreatment, partly due to the lingering antiquated perceptions about Autism. This has invasive impacts on the lives of Autistic individuals, stripping them off their dignity, self-worth, and basic human rights.

According to a study by the National Autistic Society, Autistic people and their families frequently experience stigma and discrimination, often leading to extreme social isolation. This has to end. We cannot let our society forget that Autistic individuals are not less-than. They have the right to be respected, understood, and treated equally.

We urge government institutions, the justice system, and society at large to take concrete actions to protect, respect, and uplift Autistic individuals. Apply a more humane approach towards this issue, recognize our experiences, and take adequate measures to halt this systematic oppression.
