Halt the Purchase of The Crestview Boutique Hotel for Homeless Housing

The Issue

The Mountain View City Council Voted on 1/26/21 to proceed with the purchase of The 67- room (all suites) Crestview Boutique Hotel located at the corner of El Camino and Crestview for the purposes of converting the site into housing for low-income and/or homeless persons. The City is seeking funding for the purchase of the site from the County of Santa Clara. While the City does not have sufficient funding to acquire the hotel, it does have approximately $3.7 million in Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) funds that it intends to make available for renovating Crestview Hotel.

In October, the Santa Clara County Supervisors voted in favor of applying for state funding to support the purchase of the Crestview Hotel. The county is expecting to receive $16.2 million through California's Homekey program and anticipates pouring $7 million of its own housing bond money into buying the hotel.

On Tuesday, November 2nd, the County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the proposed housing project at the Crestview and vote on the acquisition of the Hotel site for the purposes of creating “permanent affordable housing”.

As concerned homeowners, business owners and parents of children who attend the nearby pre-schools and elementary school, we are worried that the city has not fully disclosed the operational plan for the proposed Crestview housing project. We are further genuinely concerned about the potential negative impact to crime and safety within the surrounding neighborhoods based on police and media documented incidents of harassment, petty theft, assault, rape and unfortunately a murder at other like housing sites.

We are calling on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to vote NO on the acquisition of the Crestview Hotel for the purposes of creating a public housing a project on 11/2.

Save South Mountain View and keep our neighborhood safe!
