Halt the Proposed Zoning Law Changes to Preserve Dark Skies in Homer, NY

Halt the Proposed Zoning Law Changes to Preserve Dark Skies in Homer, NY
The Issue
Wednesday, May 8th, 2024: Homer Town Board voted 4-1 in favor of drafting regulations that would allow electronic billboards. During public comments, 20 people spoke in opposition, and only 2 in support.
These billboards would emit light pollution that could drastically reduce the visibility of our cherished night sky and hinder astronomical observations.
According to the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), light pollution not only affects astronomers but also disrupts ecosystems and has adverse health effects on humans and wildlife alike.
We must protect our dark skies for future generations who deserve to experience their beauty and wonder just as we have. We urge you not only as residents but as stewards of this land - to halt these proposed zoning law changes! Please consider attending town board meetings and sign this petition today to preserve our dark skies in Homer, NY.
